Getting Started
Step 1.
The first thing you need to do is check your state laws on traditional parent-led homeschooling. I call it traditional parent led homeschooling because there is also another choice and it is called free public school at home. It is important to know the difference in order to choose what is best for your family.
Below are a few examples on how they differ in the state of Texas.

Step 2.
If your child has never been to public school, you are not legally required to register with your local school district or receive their permission to homeschool. However, if they are attending public school, you must withdraw your child(ren) from school .

Step 3.
Before you choose a curriculum, it is best to learn your child's learning style. For example: Auditory Learner, Visual Learner, Tactile / Kinesthetic Learner, Global Thinker, or Analytic Thinker.
Your child can take a Learning Style Test at this website.
Step 4.
After determining your child's learning style, you are ready to choose a curriculum. Here is a free e-book titled 7 Secrets to Finding the Best Homeschool Curriculum by Carletta Sanders from Successful Homeschooling.
Step 5.
Join a homeschool support group. Although it is not a requirement, meeting up with families that are also homeschooling will give you the opportunity to network and get the support you need from homeschool veterans. You can also learn about important resources to help you be successful in educating your child. Also, remember Google is your friend.
